Pipes are hollow tubular or cylindrical parts, and usually of a circular cross section, used mainly for conveying water or liquids and gases, multiplying substances, slurries, powders and small solid masses. And usually also often used for structural applications; hollow pipes are much more rigid per unit weight than solid parts.
In general, the use of the word pipe and tube can usually be exchanged, but in industry and engineering, the terms are uniquely defined. This depends on the standards that apply to its manufacture, pipes are generally determined by the nominal diameter with a constant outside diameter (OD) and a schedule that determines the thickness. The important thing that must be considered is that the tube is often determined by OD and wall thickness, but can be determined by two OD, inner diameter (ID), and wall thickness.
Pipes are one of the most important parts of a plumbing system. There are so many types of pipes, they are divided according to function, location, and material. For the type of pipe according to its function, this pipe is divided into 4 parts, namely:
1. a drain pipe for clean water
2. used water pipes
3. Dirty water pipes
4. as well as rainwater pipes
The difference is dirty water and used water which is distinguished from the source, for used water sourced from used water and laundry water, while for dirty water is water that comes from the toilet or from the urinal. In essence, used water can go directly into the city canal, while for dirty water it will go into septic tank and STP installations.
While for pipelines based on their location, this type of pipeline is divided into 2 parts, namely vertical pipes and horizontal pipes. While for the type of pipe based on the material divided into 6 parts, namely:
1. Galvanized Iron Pipe or GIP
The GIP pipe is better known as galvanized iron pipe, which is generally used to install cold water only because it is not recommended for hot water pipelines.
2. Poly Vinyl Chloride or PVC pipes
PVC pipe is a pipe made from the incorporation of vinyl plastic. The combination creates a pipe that is lightweight, strong, not rusty and will last long. This type of pipe is more suitable for installation of cold-temperature water.
3. High-Density Poly Ethylene Pipes or HDPE
HDPE pipe is a pipe made of poly-ethylene material where the material has a high density so that the type of pipe like this is able to withstand very high pressure. The characteristics of this pipe are strong, flexible and flexible and resistant to chemicals.
4. Steel Pipe or Steel Pipe
This type of steel pipe can be used as a pipeline for energy supply, for example: for drains, gas, oil and various other highly flammable liquids.
5. Copper Pipe
Copper pipe is a type of pipe that is strong and durable, in general this type of pipe is more widely used for installation of hot water.
6. Concrete Pipes
The type of concrete pipe used is in the form of precast concrete, which is generally used as a drainage channel. This type of pipe is divided into 2 types, namely light duty and heavy duty.
