Conductivity is the parameter used to measure a solution's ability to conduct an electric current. The term “Conductivity” is derived from Ohm’s Law which is defined as: E = I • R, where E is voltage applied between the two “plates” (shown in Figure 2.1), and an electrical current I will flow which is dependent on the resistance R of the conductor. Therefore, conductivity is defined as the reciprocal of resistance of a solution between two electrodes and it can be expressed as: G = I / R.
